Mounting Studs for Contact Type Vibration Sensors
Choosing a sensor mounting accessory
- Sensor end: all IRD vibration sensors have a 1/4"-28 UNF female mount, and all our SS304 studs have a 1/4"-28 UNF male end.
- Machine surface already tapped? Choose the stud whose other end matches (M6 x 1, M8 x 1.25 or M10 x 1.5).
- Not tapped? Fix a mounting pad to the machine, then fit the stud. Mild steel pads are tack welded; stainless steel pads come in M6 x 1, M8 x 1 and M8 x 1.25.
- No drilling or welding? Use a magnetic base for quick portable readings, or bond an adhesive mounting adapter to the surface.
- Measuring 2 or 3 axes at one bearing? Use the XYZ mounting block.
General guidance: a rigid, flat, clean stud mount transfers vibration best and gives the widest usable frequency range. Less rigid mounts lower the usable frequency range. Follow the sensor's data sheet for its mounting recommendations.
